MADISON MAGAZINE MARKETING & ADVERTISING/SALES INTERNSHIPS
Are you interested in being an intern at Madison Magazine? Madison Magazine interns gain valuable experience in the journalism field. Interns write, edit, fact-check and develop marketing projects. Interns are required to attend Madison Magazine special events and learn valuable hannds-on event experience.
Past Madison Magazine interns have gone on to work for newspapers, trade publications, the UWMadison, American Girl, freelance for national publications and work for our very own Channel3000.com website as news editor.
Marketing Internship: Work directly with the Marketing Director on market research, TV production and other media promotion, public relations, and event planning and marketing.
Hours: 10/week minimum
Credit: Academic credit for undergrads

MADISON MAGAZINE EDITORIAL INTERNSHIP
Are you interested in being an intern at Madison Magazine? Madison Magazine interns gain valuable experience in the journalism field. Interns write, edit, fact-check and work on special projects with our editorial staff.
Past Madison Magazine interns have gone on to work for newspapers, trade publications, the UW–Madison, American Girl, freelance for national publications and work for our very own Channel3000.com website as news editor.
Editorial: We want you to get as much experience in the magazine publishing business as possible, so as an editorial intern, you will:
- Participate in weekly edit meetings where we develop story ideas and cover concepts, work with the art department on design and layout for each issue and plan special issues like the City Guide and Best of Madison
- Assist the editors with special projects. Recent examples include our annual Best of Madison awards, Best Neighborhoods, and best doctors and lawyers
- Write articles that will get published in the magazine
- Assist with our OverTones monthly arts and entertainment listings, which includes art exhibits, music, theater, literature events, festivals and more
- Fact-check articles for publication
- Maintain the print and online restaurant guide
- Write expanded articles for Channel3000.com, WISC-TV3’s website
In addition, motivated interns will have the opportunity to learn about media convergence in broadcast and on the web, and explore their particular interest areas.
Hours: 10 hours per week minimum
Credit: Academic credit for undergrad/graduate students if desired (optional)
Deadline: Summer: April 15, Fall: August 1, Spring: December 1

Graphic Design Internship
We're Madison's monthly lifestyle and business magazine, and we're looking for interns to join our team.
Design Internship:
- You will work directly with the Art Director and senior designers on all
aspects of the magazine from speculative ad design and production to
illustration, photo correction and page layout.
- You may have the opportunity to attend photo shoots and attend editorial
meetings.
- • You should have an expressed interest in publication design and working
knowledge of Photoshop, Quark, Illustrator and Mac OS X operating system.
Hours: 8 hr. / week minimum

Photography Internship
We're Madison's monthly lifestyle and business magazine, and we're looking for interns to join our team.
Photography Internship:
- You will work directly with the Art Director on a wide variety of photo assignments, big and small for print publication including portraiture, architecture, food and product, fashion and photojournalism.
- You may have the opportunity to attend photo shoots with some of our seasoned stylists and photographers to assist or observe in the studio and on location.
- You will receive hands-on experience, tear-sheets and portfolio building skills.
- Candidates should have an expressed interest shooting editorial, magazine-style work.
- A 2 – 4 year degree in photography is a plus, but not required.
- Access to lighting equipment and digital camera is a must.
- Candidates must be proficient in Photoshop and color correction and should be able to present final files digitally.
Hours: 8 hr. / week minimum
Credit: Academic credit for undergrads
