Lasting Appeal
Trevor Stephenson leads the Madison Bach Musicians as they kick off a new season with Baroque masterpieces
On October 6, Trevor Stephenson, artistic director of Madison Bach Musicians, kicks off the group’s new season with a concert of Baroque masterpieces. Joining him are English soprano Amy Haworth and Anna Steinhoff playing the viola da gamba. Stephenson performs with his historic harpsichord, a handcrafted replica of the instrument Bach played in 1720.
“The reason we do this music on period instruments is it makes it sound more contemporary—in the present tense, like it’s happening right now,” he says. “Great music is forever, no matter when it was written.”
