A Madison Opera Debut
Meet new general director Kathryn Smith

For Kathryn Smith, performing in Seattle Opera’s children’s chorus at age fourteen changed her life.
“I fell head over heels in love with the art form,” she says.
That passion has led her to work at opera companies in Boston, Chicago, New York and Tacoma, Washington—and now as the new general director of Madison Opera.
“When a performance is great, it’s the same thrill,” she says.
And putting on a fantastic show is always her goal.
“When it’s done right, both sides of the footlights are affected by it,” she says.“People can tell when they’re involved in something great.”
