A Poet's Place

This glimpse into family life is captivating in its normalacy and simplicity. The mother’s immediate application of insight meditation reflects a tranquility that permeates. — Fabu

After the Evening Lecture on Insight Meditation

by Andrea Potos

I walked under a sky glowing indigo,
past pine trees giving off the last
of their warm scent.
I came home to my husband,
twirled in my long skirt
beside the still-cluttered kitchen sink
while in the living room our daughter
was up way beyond bedtime.
I had no urge to scold anyone.
She scurried to her piano,
I heard her hands
release the Ode to Joy.

Andrea Potos is the author of the poetry collections Yaya’s Cloth and The Perfect Day. Her poems appear widely in journals and anthologies. She lives in Madison with her husband and daughter, who still plays the piano beautifully.
