Fans of farmhouse chic, eclectic glam and carefully crafted interiors will appreciate The Ironstone Nest, Sun Prairie’s “one-stop shop for DIYers and furniture refinishing,” explains owner Laura Distin. The clean, airy shop decorated with rustic charm and punctuated by stylish accents just opened in a new location in May on Sun Prairie’s main drag. Previously Distin’s shop was just down the street.

Distin’s innovative concept combines a retail storefront with workshops on furniture refinishing, working with milk paint and a few others that make this place a go-to hub for creative types. “It’s for that growing influx of people doing these types of projects on the weekends,” she says. Distin was tired of running to multiple stores just to finish one piece, so on the retail side the shop has every item one would need to refinish furniture from start to finish: stains, paints, drawer hardware, brushes and more. The Ironstone Nest is also sprinkled with one-of-a-kind vintage finds available for purchase—just for fun, says Distin.

She started in the furniture refinishing world to reinvigorate garage sale and curbside castoffs on a tight budget. And now that it’s a full-time passion project, Distin can’t wait to dig her heels in further: “I want this to be a place where people come to find their inspiration.”
