For some, “vegetarian restaurant” invokes an image of bland food and bleak ambiance. Not so at the Green Owl Café, which should appeal to vegetarians and epicures alike. The simple décor is bright and the imaginative food globally inspired. Comfortably familiar veggie versions of old favorites—BBQ jackfruit with vegan slaw, chili dog with cheese, and spaghetti with eggplant meatballs—are justly popular. Oven-roasted baby red potatoes with olive oil and garlic alone are worth the trip. Chef/proprietor Jennie Capellaro has a special flair for soups and chili; along with desserts, the selection changes daily. Her mantra is vegetarian cuisine for people who love food.
