Best of the Decade

One year isn't enough for these city favorites

A drink from the Old Fashioned

A drink from the Old Fashioned

The Great Dane Pub & Brewing Co.

With an astonishing thirty-four wins in the last ten years, the Great Dane is a Best of Madison heavyweight (kind of like a real Great Dane). Wins have been scattered across categories including brewpub, outdoor dining, microbrew, lunch, brunch and late-night hotspot.

Glass Nickel

With seventeen specialty pies (Breakfast Pie or a Tailgator Pie with bratwurst topping, anyone?) it’s clear that Glass Nickel does not lack originality. Or taste. Mmmmm, pizza…

The Old Fashioned

Judging by the hour-long wait most nights (even on weeknights!) the Old Fashioned is like the popular kids—everyone wants to hang out with them. Since its inception in 2006, no other restaurant has won so many awards, so quickly.

The Edgewater

While the city and its commissions dither, scores of Madisionians loyally vote the Edgewater the best hotel for business or for pleasure, best lakeview dining, best ambiance and more. Seems the people have swiftly spoken.

American Players Theatre

Madisonians obviously love a summer Shakespeare fix, especially when it’s in the middle of the woods in a glorious outdoor amphitheater. Since the addition of the indoor Touchstone Theater in 2009, now playgoers have two options to experience top-notch classic theater—even in bad weather.
