Sally Bilder is a Natural Landscape Painter
The Madison artist's work is featured in a new calendar
Each day, Sally Bilder takes a walk outside, exploring her west-side neighborhood or a local landmark like the UW Arboretum or Allen Centennial Gardens.
“It’s a spiritual sense of being, even in that little bit of nature,” she says.
She also connects to the outdoors in her artwork. An oil painting of Picnic Point—with sunshine casting soft shadows across a snow-covered path—represents January in the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission’s new art calendar. The edition is themed “Welcome Home,” a reminder that there’s no place quite like Dane County, a sentiment Bilder appreciates.
“I have a great emotional attachment to Wisconsin,” she says.
