Pretty Little Things

For women who have never done a bra fitting, it’s not as bad as you think—in fact, it’s quite enlightening. And Katherine Bice, owner of La Lingerie, is happy to show you why.

“So many times, we look at the outward, rather than inward,” says Bice. She’s referring to what’s under our clothes than rather than, well, our clothing. “That’s why I believe in quality over quantity.”Jenni Jo’s handmade adornments can be worn as a hairpiece or brooch, $28.

Bice has been working in the lingerie industry for six years, including stints in management at Victoria’s Secret and at high-end undergarment boutique Trousseau in Chicago. But it was at Victoria’s Secret that Bice noticed a lot of women who didn’t fit into the store’s cookie- cutter sizes.

“I realized how many women I couldn’t fit there,” she says. “I carry fifty percent more sizes than Victoria’s Secret—not to pick on them—but so many women have fit problems with standard bra sizing.”

Bice, whose shop opened in June, carries bra sizes 30A–40H by French lines Chantelle and Simone Pérelè, Filipino line Natori and English line Fantasie. Bra and panty sets range from basic black and nude styles to sexy and fun lace sets. The fit of each piece is Bice’s number-one priority.

La Lingerie is open by appointment only—which guarantees personal attention and a more comfortable shopping atmosphere. The space is lovely and intimate, wiA lovely vignette of sweet and dainty a few relics from family members thrown in, like her mother’s piano and her great-grandparents’ vanity that was in their Depression-era grocery store in Madison.

After her consultations Bice says customers thank her: “I have so many women say, ‘How have I never known my true size?’ I want women to feel comfortable—and you should feel sexy every day!”

For a city that doesn’t have much in the way of intimate apparel shops, she’s happy to fill that void.

“I felt like Wisconsin needed a great bra store—the right bra can change your world!” Bice exclaims. “And I want women to accept their bodies and embrace that.”
