Make the Mint Espresso Martini part of your New Year's Eve plans

“Ten … nine … eight …” As the final moments of the year tick down, our thoughts often turn to whom we’re going to kiss when the clock strikes midnight. But equally as important is finding the right drink to sip on New Year’s Eve.

An excellent option is the Mint Espresso Martini at Johnny Delmonico’s Steakhouse, the upscale eatery off the Capitol Square. The deep-green-hued libation became part of the cocktail menu this summer, but bartender Andy Sleger thinks it’s best suited to colder months—particularly the holiday season.

Made with espresso, vodka, crème de menthe, mint-infused simple syrup and fresh mint leaves, the drink is full of
flavor. Refreshing mint emerges first, followed by rich espresso.

The martini is ideal for New Year’s Eve: The shot of espresso will keep you going till the clock turns to twelve. And the mint will ensure your midnight kiss is a great start to 2010.

RECIPE: Mint Espresso Martini

1 shot espresso
1 oz vodka
1/2 oz crème de menthe
1/2 oz mint-infused simple syrup
2–3 mint leaves

Combine ingredients in a martini shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass.
