Fall on the Farm: Special Tours of Heartland Farm Sanctuary

Heartland Farm Sanctuary, Wisconsin's only farm-animal dedicated sanctuary and shelter, will be having special tours for area grade school classes and families throughout September and October. "Fall on the Farm" will include a guided tour with hands-on time with Heartland's friendly animals.

Heartland is home to over 60 animals, including a variety of pigs, horses, sheep, goats, llamas, chickens, turkeys, ducks and others. Kids will learn about the animals and enjoy fall treats, and receive a mini pumpkin to take home. Visitors are encouraged to bring cameras with them for pictures with Heartland's animals.

"We've gotten tremendous feedback about these tours from area schools and families, so we're very excited to open these up to classrooms, groups and families throughout the greater Dane County area," said Dana Barre, Heartland Farm Sanctuary's Executive Director.  “Visitors will also meet Heartland’s newest edition, Winnie, a six-week old piglet we recently rescued, who was discovered injured and wandering an area highway.  Since arriving at Heartland, she has stolen the hearts of children and adults alike.”

 About Heartland Farm Sanctuary

Heartland Farm Sanctuary, founded in 2009, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping homeless farm animals in Wisconsin, and building connections between animals and vulnerable youth. Research has shown that children benefit tremendously by taking part in animal-assisted therapeutic activities, such as programs developed by Heartland using the farm animals they help. Heartland Farm Sanctuary's mission is to provide care for farm animals in need, nurture people through the human-animal bond, and foster respect and kindness toward animals and each other.
