One for the Road
Come the dog days of August, after the grill has lost its thrill, it’s time for a dining trip. Look for places unsung, preferably near a lake and maybe a little bit hard to find. The Lake House Inn on Lake Koshkonong is just such a destination.
For more than a century this old brick hotel with its big veranda and rustic charm has reeled in locals, weekenders and daytrippers alike. Drinks in the oak-beamed bar are blatantly cheap. The Friday night fish fry is mythical and the menu unadulterated Wisconsin soul food. It’s summer vacation, if only for one night.
