A Modernized Myth
Kanopy Dance presents a fresh take on the Cassandra story
In Greek mythology, Apollo granted the princess Cassandra the gift of prophecy.
But when she refused his love, he cursed her so that no one would believe her predictions.
Lisa Thurrell, co-artistic director of Kanopy Dance, and composer Vicky Tzoumerka-Knoedler have created a lush dance and music mixing percussion, strings and chants—melding ancient Greek drama with a modern, deconstructed storytelling style.
Cassandra runs April 13–15, along with two works by guest artist Sandra Kauffman and a new abstract dance by the company's own Kerry Parker.
Katie Vaughn is managing editor of Madison Magazine.
