Fall's Finishing Touches

Fall's Finishing Touches

When I want to look put together (even on days when I don’t feel like it), I like to add polish with a dash of panache. Here are a few things I’m loving this fall to do just that.

Get an Earful

While I love a great statement necklace, I find myself attracted lately to sparkling statement earrings that add a playful elegance to my daytime look. They’re especially appropriate with a minimalist look or with a print top that doesn’t need a necklace to compete with it. Earrings, $36,

Cuff It

As much as you may love (or hate) it, jeans are becoming more accepted as appropriate attire for work. A skinny or straight silhouette is a key one you’ll want in your closet—whether it’s a coated pair, dark denim or even a sleek print. One way I like to vary up the look a (tiny) bit is to roll a skinny cuff at the bottom. It lets a little ankle show, which elongates your leg and adds a little sass to the look. Very Berry

Like a fine glass of merlot, a wine or berry-colored lip to me is a look worth savoring. When days get darker earlier, a deeper, sexier lip is thoroughly appropriate. Pair it with a swipe of black eyeliner and mascara for a perfectly pretty look. My favorite new shade is Revlon’s Plum Velour. Revlon Plum Velour lipstick, $7.99,

Dazzling Digits

I admit I apparently am a tween at heart when it comes to nail polish—bring on the bright colors, sparkles and designs! One of my quick shortcuts to polish that lasts is to use chunky, opaque glitter polishes that don’t chip easily. Plus it just puts a smile on my face to look at my sparkly fingers—it just makes them look more posh.

To a Point

This fall it’s all about a pointed flat or single-sole pointy heel. I love flats because they’re comfy yet still add a dressy element to a look, even if they’re paired with distressed jeans and a T-shirt. My current favorites I keep reaching for in my own closet are a gold and snakeskin pair. What’s great about metallics and snakeskin for this fall is that both have become so versatile that you can pair them with most anything—even prints!
