Pick of the Week: Shayna Chairs
I never expected to have a pair of chairs named after me. And yet, here we are. You may recall I wrote about Confectionique here, back in August. I reported that Jessica Regele and Anastasia Korbitz had opened a shop that used a "European market" approach for their Middleton shop—it's open one weekend and one Thursday night per month.
The pair have always been passionate about crafting and recreating lovely wares out of other old vintage pieces. If you stop by Confectionique you'll find reupholstered chairs, jewelry boxes, cute wall hangings, pillows and much more, crafted by Regele and Korbitz. When I interviewed the owners I realized that I had several scrap pieces of fabric that I had once used to make pillowcases and reupholster a chair with. I asked the pair if they would like the fabric scraps—after all, they were much too pretty to throw away (and I would feel too guilty doing that!)—but I didn't have the time to recreate them into something new. The pair eagerly said yes so I dropped off my fabric package to the shop a few weeks later.
Fast-forward to two weeks ago and I received an email from Korbitz: she had used some black and white damask fabric I had given them to reupholster cushions on some chairs she had refurbished. Then she directed me to the shop's blog, where photos of her handiwork were on display—and to my pleasant surprise, Korbitz had named her pair of chairs with damask cushions "Shayna Chairs" (shown in the photo, above). Ironically, the reason I had purchased that fabric a few years ago was to refurbish my own chair (that I had salvaged from a curb downtown!) that looks almost exactly like Korbitz's! I shared this with her—after all, our chairs were long-lost twins—and she thought it was amusing that our chairs were the same.
The best part about these chairs is that they are a meager $60 for the pair. So stop by Confectionique's Pinque Market on November 26 to snap them up! Unless I want to make a trio out of my black-and-white chairs. We'll see...
