Pick of the Week: Summer Essentials
This sounds odd to say at the age I am, but I'm a curmudgeon—about my wardrobe. That's right, call me a crabby (young) lady, but I won't put up with poor fit, a cute item that's on sale that I'll only wear once or a piece that I know doesn't go with anything in my wardrobe. You see, I've bought those killer shoes that I never ended up wearing and that $10 sundress only to discover that the fit is awful/not flattering. Resist that ever-so-tempting sale if you're just "eh" about something. You'll be glad you did.
I had been on the search for the perfect racerback tank top. This is actually more elusive than you think. Most racerback tanks in stores now are too sheer (which means you're layering underneath), the arm holes are too low (and thus, expose your bra) or too baggy. Although I like all of these elements in the right tank, I wanted something I could tuck into a chic skirt for work that I didn't have to layer, or wear with shorts and not be too long or baggy. I searched high and low, tried on several iterations and got frustrated that it wasn't out there. A tank top!
Then I fell into the Gap (OK, that's an old slogan of theirs, maybe I am old...) and spotted a rack full of beautiful rayon-blend racerback tanks in a stunning array of colors: purple, gray, olive, coral and more. I immediately snapped them up and tried them on. Perfection! The Gap's rayon racerback tank is not too large or too long, and the arm holes are perfect! Plus, the price can't be beat. I picked these up in a vibrant coral as well as the "storm" color, shown. I've already worn both with skinnes, tucked into a skirt and with my favorite white shorts!
I thought I'd also share a beauty product that I'm loving now as well, and is perfectly summer-apropos. Have you ever gone on a warm-weather trip in the winter, or mid-summer found that your foundation color is too light? I found the solution for you: Avon's Ideal Shade Foundation Adjuster. Simply squeeze out a bit of your foundation and mix with a bit of this product (which comes in cool or warm) to deepen your makeup shade. Voila! No need to buy a darker foundation, especially if it's mid-winter and your color may fade a bit as the weeks go on. It's only $4.99 a tube and will last a while—until you get your next tan!
