Behind the Scenes of our Style Department

Behind the Scenes of our Style Department

Preparing for a photo shoot takes longer than writing most shorter magazine stories. I would know, since I do both. Prepping for our style shoots takes days of scouting and shopping and a half-day of shooting—all for one page in the magazine. Add time to that if you're using a "live" model or are shooting on-location somewhere—and that easily turns into almost a full day of just shooting. But since style is an important component of what we do here, the work is worth the results.

Recently I posted two "behind the scenes" photos on Facebook that our City Style photographer Tim Hughes sent to me. I got a few positive responses from people, saying they liked seeing what we do behind the lens. So I thought I'd share a few candids that I snapped of shoots from our April, May and July issues. First you'll see the "before" shots juxtaposed with the final product that appears in the magazine. As you can see, the un-glam work behind the scenes leads to pretty sweet stuff in our pages. Take a look!
