Pick of the Week: The New Neons

Pick of the Week: The New Neons

As Fashion Week winds down (and you're a fashion-industry junkie like me) you've probably seen lots of websites and magazines touting the spring trends. One of those is neon and graphic brights. I've already seen brights popping up in handbags, dresses, tops and even nail polish. Yep, it's a sure sign that people are shrugging off the grays and blacks of winter and turning toward the vibrant, sunny shades of spring and summer.

I stopped in Neena (last mentioned in this blog post) last week to take a look at the shop and owner Deneen Carmichael's "comfortable, stylish and functional apparel." The former Tickled Pink space looks and feel completely different—the shop is beautiful, with smoky lavender walls, gray patterned carpeting and mirrors hung throughout.  It really seems as if activewear is indeed becoming more functional and wear-everywhere than those Adidas soccer shorts that were all the rage when I was growing up. I particularly loved two Aum Couture tops—the one-shoulder tunic ($60, shown), and the knot-back tank ($52)—in a gorgeous neon pink. These tops could easily transition from weekend/day-off wear to more dressy occasions worn with a blazer and skinny jeans.
