New Fashion Finds
I have written about my essential winter pieces before. Due to our (in my opinion) less than optimal winter climate it’s imperative to still embrace our chilly temps wholeheartedly and look good while doing it! No snow boots, puffy jackets and snow pants required (well, unless you’re going skiing or they’re fashionable versions of said items, then I approve). Layering is crucial to keep your body warm and your overall look even hotter.
I deeply enjoyed Refinery 29’s piece on winter layering this week. All of the looks are approachable and trendy, and yet each features at least one item that’s—gasp—affordable, too. Fashion that’s easy to wear, keeps you comfortable and, let’s face it, is cute? Sign me up!

Speaking of layering, this fabulous, richly colored and patterned one-hundred-percent silk scarf is my newest wardrobe love. I’ve already worn it with outfits to work but I tested the waters a bit today and paired it with my graphic gray-and-cream houndstooth print winter jacket. A print with a print?! That’s right, and it looks great. Mixing prints is all the rage for spring (large floral prints with smaller floral prints, a stripe top with a floral or subdued check, et cetera). (Shopbop has a great lookbook on this if you’re interested).
Indocara sells these great scarves for $60—a steal for a one-hundred-percent silk product. I had a hard time deciding between this fuschia version or a brilliant turquoise print—both of which I knew would be perfect for day paired with my winter jacket or as part of an outfit—or for night as a shawl to keep my shoulders warm with a cute cocktail dress.

I have this severe weakness for black and gold jewelry—earrings, bracelets, necklaces, you name it. It’s weird, I could have ten gold and black necklaces and still want more. My boyfriend often gets confused by fashion, asking (for example) why I have so many black tops—don’t you only need, say, two black tops? I frequently explain (patiently) that every top is different, they all go with different outfits, et cetera. It can be quite a comical conversation since some of my tops aren’t really all THAT different from one another (I have two black halter-style tops that are ruffled down the front. So, I sometimes see his point). Alas, men and women are wired differently when it comes to fashion.
So that’s why I got excited (surprise!) when I saw bop’s newest black and gold and lookbook. Cute rocker cuffs, fierce platforms and wedges, and studded belts all cater to my black and gold fancy.
