Belle Pizzelle Bakery & Cafe Brings European Fare to East Towne Mall

Belle Pizzelle Bakery & Cafe Brings European Fare to East Towne Mall

Belle Pizzelle's Russian pelmeni—homemade dumplings with beef and pork served with spicy sour cream—are worth a special trip.

There’s a new reason to head to East Towne Mall, and it isn’t the new Body Central women’s store that just opened.

Far from the food court fare you’d expect in a shopping center, Belle Pizzelle Bakery & Cafe is a breath of fresh air in the mall’s culinary offerings. The European-inspired café, which opened on the east end of the mall near Gordman's and Dick’s Sporting Goods in February, focuses on scratch made pastries and breads, and offers a small menu of soups, salads and sandwiches, with plans to expand food offerings soon.

The real star, though, is the Russian pelmeni—house-made dumplings filled with pork and beef, inspired by owners Tatiana Dickey and Olga Efremova’s home country.

Dickey and Efremova, sisters who grew up in Russia with restaurateur and baker parents, had been planning on opening up a their own business when the space in East Towne became available.

“Growing up with that background, it’s always on the back of your mind,” says Dickey, who moved to Madison twelve years ago to attend UW.

The sisters whip up such sweet treats as cream puffs (the whipped cream is made in-house), fruit tarts, cookies, cupcakes and chocolate-dipped strawberries, and their custom cakes are growing in popularity as they add beloved cartoon character options.

Belle Pizzelle can also host private parties and cater events like business lunches or graduation parties.
