Five Picnic-Pleasing Events
Summer's not over yet! Enjoy the month of August and beyond with these picnic-worthy events.
Back Porch Concert Series
The Bloomington Grove Historical Society sponsors concerts on Thursday evenings at the Monona Golf Course/Dean House, 4718 Monona Dr. Held from 7 to 8 p.m., the series is perfect for “after-dinner” picnics featuring desserts and a little bubbly. The series has two shows left: Off the Porch on August 2 and KG and the Ranger on August 9. bloominggrovehistory.org/concerts
Capitol City Band Concerts
Capitol City Band holds free concerts each Thursday in Rennebohm Park, 115 N. Eau Claire Ave. One-up the concession stands by bringing your own spread. Shows begin at 7 p.m. and run through August. mmqccb.org
The ideal multicultural picnic can be purchased at various food vendors on the rooftop of the Monona Terrace during Dane Dances in August, where Dane County residents can dance the night away to the sounds of local bands. Vendors include Blowing Smoke, Francisco’s, Kipps Cuisine and Lake Vista Cafe. Concerts are held August 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. danedances.org
Botham Vineyards’ Vintage Celebration
Wine and cars share one crucial similarity: classic is key. Join Botham Vineyards on August 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for their seventeenth annual Vintage Celebration. In addition to hosting automobiles, the vineyard serves as a picnic marathon, with live entertainment, food and wine served all day long. The event is held at the vineyards, at 8180 Langberry Rd., Barneveld. bothamvineyards.com
Dane County Farmers’ Market
Each Saturday morning, Madisonians gather around the Capitol Square to buy local groceries. But instead of taking them all home, pick a few ready-to-eat items and stay a while on the Capitol Lawn. While the other nominees are events, the Dane County Farmers’ Market is ongoing, perfect for fall picnics. The market is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. through November 10. dcfm.org
