Midwest Gypsy Swing Fest Celebrates 11 Years

Midwest Gypsy Swing Fest Celebrates 11 Years

The Midwest Gypsy Swing Fest will take place September 13 and 14 at Art in the Barn in Fitchburg. The festival honors the gypsy swing style of jazz popularized by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli. Organized largely by Harmonious Wail and Sims and Maggie Delaney-Pothoff, the festival is now in its eleventh year.

The lineup features the music of San Francisco’s Gaucho Jazz, Tulsa’s Mischievous Swing, Finnish guitarist Ollie Soikelli, Chicago’s Alfonso Ponticelli and Swing Gitan and, of course, Madison’s own Harmonious Wail. The festivities also include a “Monster Jam” and a “Campfire Jam” at the conclusion of both evenings. Saturday at noon there is a workshop with Soikelli and Boston gypsy swing guitar sensation Jack Soref and at 5:30 p.m. there is a dinner jam break with food supplied by Blue Spoon. Click here for the full schedule.

Harmonious Wail is also celebrating twenty-six years of making music. They have a new CD out called Bohemian Tango and you can read a review of that album here

Tickets are $40 and $45 for general/preferred seating with the two-day pass costing $70 and $80 for general/preferred. Directions to Art in the Barn can be found here.
