Rising Star

Rising Star

She’s known as Beyoncé’s saxophonist. She’s served as music director and soloist for Esperanza Spalding. This summer, she toured Europe with jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves.

But Madisonians have the chance to experience Tia Fuller on her own terms.

The saxophonist and rising star in the jazz scene kicks off the 2012–2013 Isthmus Jazz Series with a free concert Friday at The Sett at the Union South.

A Colorado native, Fuller was born to jazz musician parents and grew up playing piano, flute and, in high school, the saxophone. Today she’s a New Jersey-based musician, composer and educator who’s released three albums and tours with other artists as well as her own jazz quartet.

While in Madison for a three-day residency, Fuller not only offers a concert but also will conduct educational outreach programs at the Boys and Girls Club’s Allied Family Center, Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Wright Middle School.

Tia Fuller performs at 8 p.m. on October 12 in a free concert at The Sett at the Union South. For more information, visit uniontheater.wisc.edu.
