Tweeting Art Fair on the Square

This weekend, the fifty-fifth Art Fair on the Square took place, bringing artists from around the country to the Capitol Square to showcase their paintings, photography, sculpture, jewelry, glass and metal pieces, wood works and more. For the first time, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art asked a handful of arts lovers to guest tweet the event—that is, share their observations via short Twitter messages.

I had the chance to participate, and happily received the first shift from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. Here’s a look at my spin around the Square:

Good morning! ‪@katiemv here tweeting from Art Fair on the Square. Art lovers are already strolling. ‪#ArtonSq ‪

I love the way Jeff Condon (booth 442) sees the landscape. ‪#ArtonSq ‪

Layla Messkoub's mixed media works are intricate and beautiful. ‪#ArtonSq

Tiny People Big Laughs is already drawing a crowd. ‪#ArtonSq ‪

Richard W. Patt's barns are stunning (booth 473). ‪#ArtonSq ‪

The way Kyle Spears captures the essence of a place through photography is amazing (booth 468). ‪#ArtonSq

A metal garden a la Bill Brackett (booth 518). ‪

"Ohh, the Terrace chairs," gushed a new fan of Cassius J. Callender Photography. ‪#ArtonSq ‪

A gorgeous sense of line carries through Michelle Prahler's art (booth 539). ‪#ArtonSq ‪

You've got to see Michael Gard's flying figures for yourself. ‪#ArtonSq ‪

Recognize this Hal Koenig scene? ‪#ArtonSq ‪

John Blackwell's glass pieces are stunning (booth 651). Love the print. ‪#ArtonSq ‪

Don't miss beautiful wood pieces by The Wood Cycle of Oregon. ‪#ArtonSq ‪

Awesome! Phil Porter paintings at the VSA Wisconsin booth. ‪

Jerry Brem's paintings make me want to read. ‪#ArtonSq ‪

Sarah Ogren's works are whimsical and charming (booth 170). ‪

The Madison Weavers Guild's hats and scarves almost make me miss winter. Almost. ‪#ArtonSq ‪

Martina Celerin has the coolest fiber art scenes! ‪#ArtonSq ‪

Tweeting about Art Fair was a blast, and the two hours flew by. There were so many other artists I wish I’d had time to mention—and I didn’t even touch on the fabulous food and entertainment taking place all around the Square. Well, too much good stuff is probably a sign of a great event.
