And the Barties Go To …

If you were in Madison last weekend, you probably did something cool. La Fête de Marquette, Opera in the Park and Art Fair on the Square all took place—as did the fourth annual Bartell Theatre Awards. The event highlights standouts in the theater’s resident companies: Madison Theatre GuildMercury Players Theatre, StageQ and Strollers Theatre.

Here’s a list of this year’s winners:

Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Sam White as Big Daddy (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Strollers Theatre)

Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Judy Kimball as Lottie Shoen (Lettice & Lovage, Madison Theatre Guild)

Best Set Design: Suzan Kurry (Road to Mecca, Madison Theatre Guild)

Best Costume Design: Carola Horsch Breckbill (Opiate of the Missus, Mercury Players Theatre)

Best Lighting Design: Tom Littrell (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Strollers Theatre)

Best Sound Design and/or Original Music Design: DB Peterson (Midsummer Night's Dream, Strollers Theatre)

Best Poster Design: Dan Myers/Phil Klein/Jeff Knupp/Shelley L. Von Glahn (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Strollers Theatre, Ltd.)

Most Inspiration Play: The Normal Heart (StageQ)

Best Performance by a Newcoming Actor: Craig Alan Schlagel as Alvin Kelby (Story of My Life, StageQ)

Best Comedy: The Opiate of the Missus (By Doug Reed, Mercury Players Theatre)

Best Drama: The Normal Heart (StageQ)

Most Memorable Cast: The Normal Heart (StageQ)

Best Comedramical: Lobby Hero (Strollers Theatre)

Best Musical: The Holiday Stops (StageQ)

Best Director of a Musical: Meghan Randolph (Parade, Music Theater of Madison)

Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical: Gregory Reed as Leo Frank (Parade, Music Theater of Madison)

Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical: Abby Stevens as Diana Goodman (Next to Normal, Madison Theatre Guild)

Best Play to Take a First Date to: Rumors (Madison Theatre Guild)

Best Stage Kiss: Kathy Lynn Sliter/Katy Conley (Gertrude Stein and a Companion, StageQ)

Best Dude Play: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Strollers Theatre)
