Can someone please tell me how it’s August already? This summer seems to be flying by, and everywhere I go I hear Madisonians say they want to fit in as much fun as possible before fall comes. Well, then thank goodness it’s August! The month brings two annual events that fit that bill nicely.
Dane Dances! kicks off this evening at the Monona Terrace rooftop. The Friday-night concert series showcases high-energy bands that get audiences of all ages, backgrounds and abilities up and dancing. Here's this season's lineup:

Jazz at Five pairs great music in a cool setting—at the end of State Street near the Capitol Square. Starting next week, slow down each Wednesday evening and take in the sounds of local, regional and national jazz acts. Here's what's in store starting next week:
